Breast Cancer Risk Assessment

Increase your patient care by utilizing integrated Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Models in MRS that help aid in your assessments.

Today 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer at some point in her lifetime. MRS has a high risk dashboard in our system which will automatically alert radiologists if a patient’s personal and/or family history information combines to indicate they would be a good candidate for increased surveillance or hereditary testing.

12.15% of women will be diagnosed with cancer of the breast at some time during their lifetime.

MRS displays the patient’s risk calculation as:

  • Low Risk – 0% – 14.99% displays GREEN
  • Moderate Risk – 15% – 19.99% displays YELLOW
  • High Risk – 20% and above displays RED

This allows sites to be more proactive in alerting women who may be at risk so they can consider all their possible options and to offer increased surveillance as part of their quality of care. The dashboard displays high risk indicators calculated using Gail and NCI lifetime models available from the American Cancer Society, the Myriad Prevalence Table for BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations from Myriad Genetics, and the optional Tyrer- Cuzick Breast Cancer Risk Evaluation from Cancer Research UK.

The MRS system will flag patients who are good candidates for increased medical surveillance using information from The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS) for screening Breast MRI. It will flag patients who are good candidates for hereditary testing and it will also flag patients with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene or a personal history of breast cancer with a message recommending a discussion with a Breast Surgeon to review all medical management options.
